Billing and payment information

Where to see your plan, how a Pro subscription is paid and renewed, how to change the card, download invoices or cancel, and what the usage meters show.

Everything about paying for Tinyform lives in one place: open Settings from the sidebar and choose the Billing tab, at /settings/billing. The page belongs to the organization rather than to you personally, because a plan does: whoever in the organization opens it sees the same plan and the same usage.

See your plan details

The top of the Billing page names the plan the organization is on, Free or Pro, as a badge beside the word Plan. Under it, one sentence says what that means: on Free, that everything is included except removing the "Made with" badge and connecting a custom domain; on Pro, that your forms carry no badge and can be served from a domain you own, followed by the date the subscription renews.

On the free plan the page carries one button, Upgrade to Pro, which opens the upgrade page. The same page is reached from Upgrade plan in the sidebar, which is shown only while the organization is not yet on Pro.

Billing method

Pro is paid by card through the payment provider's hosted checkout. Tinyform never sees the card number; it hands you to the provider's page and is told the result afterwards.

  • You are charged up front for the month or the year you chose, and again on the same date each month or year after that.
  • The price is in one fixed currency for every buyer. The checkout does not convert it to a local currency, so the amount on the upgrade page is the amount on the card statement.
  • Your invoices are kept by the payment provider and can be downloaded at any time from the portal described below.

After checkout

The checkout sends you back to SettingsBilling. The page cannot take the checkout's word for it that money moved, because the address you came back on is one your browser could have typed; only the payment provider's own confirmation, which arrives a moment later, is allowed to write the plan. So the page thanks you, waits for that confirmation and then refreshes itself. If it is still waiting a few seconds later, leave the page open; nothing has gone wrong.

Manage your subscription

Once the organization is on Pro, the button under the plan becomes Manage billing. It opens the payment provider's customer portal, where everything about the subscription lives:

  • Change the card or add another payment method
  • Update the billing name and address that appear on invoices
  • Download past invoices
  • Cancel the subscription

The portal returns you to the Billing page when you are done, and the page reads the new state from the provider on its next load.

If a payment fails

When a renewal charge is declined the subscription is not cut off. The provider retries the card over the following days, and while it does, the Billing page keeps saying Pro and adds a line telling you the last payment did not go through. Open Manage billing and update the card to keep Pro. Only if every retry fails and the provider gives up does the organization return to the free plan, at which point the badge comes back and a connected custom domain stops serving.

Cancel your subscription

  1. Open Billing

Go to SettingsBilling and click Manage billing.
  2. Cancel in the portal

Choose to cancel the subscription. You are returned to the Billing page.
  3. Keep Pro until the period ends

The page now says the date Pro ends instead of the date it renews. Nothing changes before that date; on it, the organization goes back to the free plan.

You are not charged again after cancelling. You are not refunded for the remainder of the period either; see the refund policy.

Usage

Under the plan sits Usage in the current month: three bars, one for each of the monthly allowances in the Fair Use Policy, each with the count beside it. Submissions, notification emails and uploaded data are counted from the same records the app writes when a form is filled in, a mail is sent or a file is stored, so the number here is the number that decides whether you are told about an allowance. The bar is blue while there is plenty of room, amber once a notice has been sent and red past the allowance; the counts start again on the first of each month.

Frequently asked questions

Which currency am I billed in?

One fixed currency, shown on the upgrade page and the same for every buyer regardless of where they are; there is no automatic conversion at checkout.

Is there a free trial?

No, and there does not need to be one. Every feature except removing the badge and connecting a custom domain is on the free plan, so you can build, publish and collect answers with a form before deciding whether the two paid features are worth it to you.

Can I switch between monthly and yearly?

The interval is chosen on the upgrade page before checkout. Changes to an existing subscription are made in the payment provider's portal through Manage billing.

Who in the organization can upgrade or cancel?

Any member who can open SettingsBilling. The plan is the organization's, so a purchase or a cancellation applies to everyone in it.

Does a plan cover more than one organization?

No. Each organization has its own plan and its own subscription. If you belong to two organizations, each is billed on its own.
