Input blocks
Every question type you can put on a form, grouped the way the insert menu groups them, with what each one collects and the settings it carries.
A form in Tinyform is a list of blocks: questions that collect an answer, and layout blocks that carry your wording around them. This page is the questions. Type / on an empty line to open the picker as a popover under the caret, or press the + in a block's margin ("Insert block below") to open it as a dialog; either way, typing filters the list, so /short finds Short answer and /rank finds Ranking.
The picker lists every question type twice. Under Questions a block arrives with a caption box above it and the caret in it, ready for the wording. Under Input blocks, at the bottom of the list, the same type arrives as the answer box alone, for a form whose wording is already written in the Title and Text blocks around it. A caption can be added to a bare input later with Alt+T.
Every question's settings open from the handle in its left margin. Required is on every one, and Default answer on all but a file upload, a signature and a matrix; the rest of the rows depend on the type and are listed below.
Text and number
Short answer
A single line of text: a name, a street, a short reply. Its settings take a minimum and maximum character count.
Long answer
A box that grows with the answer, for anything longer than a line. Character limits apply here too.
Number
A box that accepts only a number. Settings add Min number and Max number, and a Format that draws the value plain, as a percentage or as a currency. Learn more about the number block.
Contact info
Collects an address and refuses one that is not shaped like one. Verify email in its settings sends a six-digit code the visitor has to type back before they can submit. Learn more about the email block.
Phone
A phone number with a country picker. Settings offer International format and a Default country code. Learn more about the phone number block.
Link
A web address, checked for shape before the form accepts it.
Signature
A pad the visitor draws on with a mouse or a finger. The drawing is stored as an image beside the answers. Learn more about electronic signatures.
Choices
Multiple choice
A list of options of which the visitor picks one. Settings add an "Other" option with its own text box, Randomize options with Lock options in place, a letter or number Badge on each option, and a colour per option. Learn more about multiple choice.
Dropdown
The same pick-one list folded into a closed select, for a long list such as countries. Its settings take a placeholder for the closed box, an "Other" option and the shuffle. Learn more about the dropdown.
Checkboxes
A list the visitor may tick several of, or a single consent box. Settings add Min choices and Max choices, an "Other" option and the shuffle.
Multi-select
Several answers from a dropdown, each picked one drawn as a coloured tag in the box. Learn more about multi-select.
Matrix
A grid: statements down the side, one set of answer options across the top, one pick per row (or several, with Multiple selection). The shape of a Likert scale. Learn more about the matrix question.
Date and time
Date
A calendar the visitor picks a day from, shown as "Month Day, Year" by default. Settings offer a Format, a Date range, which days of the week and whether past or future days are disabled, and which day the week starts on. Learn more about the date block.
Time
A time on the 24-hour clock, stored as HH:MM, for example 13:30.
Rating and ranking
Rating
A row of stars. Stars in its settings sets how many.
Linear scale
A row of numbered steps, for a scale such as 1 to 10. Settings take Scale start, Scale end and Scale step, and a label for the left, centre and right of the row.
Ranking
A list the visitor drags into their order of preference. Learn more about the ranking question.
File upload
A drop zone the visitor attaches files to: a CV, a screenshot, a portfolio. Settings take Min files, Max files, Max size (MB) and the file types accepted. Uploaded files are stored privately and only a member of the form's workspace can open them. Learn more about the file upload block.
Payments
Payment takes a card on submit and pays into your own Stripe account. Its settings are the amount, which can follow a calculated field, a hidden field or a Number question, and the currency. The block is not offered everywhere; the payment forms page walks through setting one up.
reCAPTCHA
A block that asks the visitor to prove they are a person before the form accepts the submission. It is not offered everywhere. Learn more about the reCAPTCHA block.
Embeds
Image
Insert an image with /image: upload one, paste an image address, or search the Pexels library. The block's settings add a caption, alt text and a link the image opens.
Online content
Almost anything with an address can sit inside a form: a video, an audio player, a map, a calendar, a PDF. Type /embed for the Embed anything block, or learn more about embedding content.
